Levels of Spiritual Care Giving

Description of the Levels of Spiritual Care Giving

  • Level One: "Immediate Spiritual Care Intervention"
The purpose of the Immediate Spiritual Care Intervention level for Spiritual Care ministers is to introduce Gods presence into "Special Need" situations. This is a short term spiritual needs intervention for crisis of all levels. These levels of crisis can range from family illness to grieving from the loss of death. The intent of this intervention is to provide a spiritual basis for the people being cared for to consider and rely on. Introduction of prayer, scripture and a listening ear are the essential components of this level of care giving. It is intended that the duration of involvement for this level is generally the length and extent of the immediate crisis only.
  • Level Two: "Intermediate Spiritual Care Management"
In this area, the Care Minister is to assist with a one to three month spiritual needs management situation. Give a listening ear, a prayerful spirit and share God simply by being there for someone. We all find a comfort in having someone simply care enough to spend "time" with us as we are going through a tough time.
  • Level Three: "Involved Spiritual Care Nurturing"
A third level of intervention, Involved Spiritual Care Nurturing is a three-month to one-year relationship between the care minister and a specific family and is intended to follow-up after a crisis for an extended level of contact. This gives a presence of a minister in the case of particular fall out after having gone through a crisis situation.
  • Level Four: "Extended Spiritual Care Involvement"
In the spirit of the Lay Minister program, this long-term relationship is intended for guidance and a strong commitment for a care minister to be involved with a person/family. In this involved care situation a relationship develops that includes monthly contact by phone, being involved in the "critical" situations of life for the receiver, and meeting at least two times per year, either for dinner out or a cup of coffee together.
